Is really the beginning. And that’s where I am.
When I was in 5th grade I distinctly remember telling myself that I would be a writer by the age of 30. Well that mark has come and gone but last year I finally sat down and wrote a manuscript. As in over 100k works. Wow! I didn’t know I had it in me.
As I walked away in triumph from that manuscript I suddenly realized it’s only the beginning.
Here’s a timeline of my journey:
2016 – Saw a picture, got inspired, started writing
Oct 2016 – Submitted some of what I’d written to a contest
Dec 2016 – Hit 30k words and decided to really focus on finishing
May 2016 – Typed “The End” write before I went to a book signing for Becky Wade and I also got to meet Connilyn Cossette. Honestly I had never heard of Connilyn but found out she lives near one of my favorite authors Tammy Gray. Conni was so sweet and gave me tips for the ACFW conference I’m going to attend plus let me give her an impromptu pitch about my book.
During this journey I joined ACFW and found an amazing network of other authors and writers who love to tell stories. Some of us are retired, stay-at-home moms, or work full-time like me. But we all have one thing in common…we love to write stories!
And that’s where the beginning comes in because I’ve found that you can’t just type The End on a story. You have to type it well. There is so much to learn about how to approach a story that isn’t even grammar related (sorry high school grammar I don’t remember much).
Join me as I post random ramblings, update you on my writing process and hopefully will have something for you to read soon.
Stay tuned!
