Welcome!

I’m so excited to introduce you to Legacy of Mercy by Lynn Austin.

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

This was my first time to read one of her books so I was thrilled to join her Book Tour hosted by Prism Book Tours.

Below you will find my review, information about the book and a link to the giveaway.

Review:

I loved the premise of this book. Young socialite Anna goes in search of the truth concerning her biological parents. She is adopted and longs tounderstand the story of her birth. It’s not typical that we read stories about heroines who are adopted but this subject is brought to light and readers will empathize with Anna as she searches for her parents.

Not only is adoption discussed but other deep topics that I’ll leave for the reader to discover! I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for Anna to feel the tug betweenmaintaining her wealthy social status while her heart yearned for something simpler. Including the man she truly loved!

Lynn writes in first person sinking us deep into Anna’s thoughts. Not only do we get to hear from Anna as you turn the pages but also her grandmother. These two women are linked over the common bond of Geesje’s daughter who was also Anna’s mother. Geesje takes in a young woman who is struggling with grief and anger and Geesje is able to see what her daughter struggled with so long ago while they were apart. The title of this book is so fitting as the legacy from the past changes through Anna and Geesje.

Lynn’s writing vividly portrays Holland, Michigan and Chicago in 1897 as settings where this book takes place. You will journey through each city as you Lynn weaves the tale of Anna and Geesje and the new legacy that their life writes.

Christian Historical Romance

She Knew Her New Life Would Not Be Easy,
But Nothing Could Prepare Her For What Waits Ahead

Having returned to Chicago, young socialite Anna Nicholson can’t seem to focus on her upcoming marriage. The new information she’s learned about her birth mother continues to pull at her, and she hires Pinkerton detectives to help her discover the whole truth.

But as she meets people who once knew her mother and hears stories about the past, Anna soon discovers that some secrets are better left hidden. With pressure mounting to keep the past quiet, she discovers daily that her choice to seek God’s purpose for her life isn’t as simple as she had hoped.

When things are at their darkest, Anna knows she can turn to her grandmother, Geesje de Jonge, back in Holland, Michigan. Geesje’s been helping new Dutch immigrants–including a teen with a troubled history–adjust to America. She only hopes that her wisdom can help all these young people through the turmoil they face.

Praise for the Book

“Varying points of view, well-placed clues, and an interesting subplot about Anna’s grandmother welcoming Dutch immigrants to Michigan keeps the story interesting. Austin skillfully embeds her strong spiritual message into the actions of her characters, creating a wonderful historical tale that is naturally inspirational.”–Publishers Weekly starred review

Haunted by the Unknowns of Their Pasts,
Two Women Search for Answers Along the Shores of Lake Michigan

Chicago socialite Anna Nicholson retreats to the Hotel Ottawa in Holland, Michigan, after breaking her engagement with her wealthy fiancé. Filled with questions about her newfound faith and troubled by a recurring nightmare, Anna finds solace in Derk Vander Veen, a seasonal hotel worker who plans to go into the ministry.

Prompted by a request from her son, Geesje de Jonge begins to sift through memories of emigrating from the Netherlands almost fifty years ago. As she writes them down for the Semi-Centennial anniversary of the town’s settlement, her story takes on a life of its own as she honestly and painfully recalls her regrets, doubts, hardships, and joys. Her story captivates Derk, who sees similarities between Geesje and Anna, and wishes to bring the two together.

Past and present collide as Anna and Geesje seek clarity, but neither expects the revelations that await them.

Praise for the Book

“Interlacing the past with the present-day lives of Anna and Geesje, Austin compassionately delivers a moving tale of family bonds, tests of faith, and abiding love.”–Booklist starred review

“Austin has crafted an interesting, historically accurate portrait of two profoundly different characters: one looking back at life, the other taking her first faltering steps toward independence.”–Publishers Weekly

Oh, hay! (See what I did there? 😉) Last year Oh, hay! (See what I did there? 😉)

Last year I felt a nudge from God to delve into a particular story idea. So I went to “see a man about a horse.” Actually several people!

I’m happy to announce that the story idea has been submitted to Love Inspired in a contest and earned me the chance to send the whole story to them by August.

Here’s to hoping my fingers will fly as fast as this horse.

After two DNFs, I hopped out of my normal reading genre and read a light mystery and these two historical romances. What a breath of fresh air! Karen and Jody’s books were audiobooks for me with great narrators.

And the romance threads didn’t disappoint! One is a marriage of convenience and the other was a heroine and her protector. I highly recommend!

Hi, it’s me, Kelly Scott, a sweet romance writer. I’ve written six stories, all represented by the different colored binders. They are all unpublished, but I’m hoping to change that.

I live in the Dallas area with my husband and two boys. By day I work as an accountant doing math things and writing and baking are my creative outlets. Along with pretend gardening.

I have first hand knowledge of grief, hot flashes, and raising a teen.

My dad was a runner. Nothing elite just his chosen My dad was a runner. Nothing elite just his chosen form of exercise. He inspired me to try it out and - ooof - running isn’t easy. It requires perseverance. When I had the chance to run a 5k with my dad, I did. He ran faster than me and during the race he double backed so he could keep pace with me. “Come on, let’s go,” he said. So I pushed forward and finished.

His running prepared him for the perseverance to fight Alzheimer’s. While diagnosed several years ago, our family joined him in this race. We held his hand and encouraged him to keep going. There were days when I wanted to quit, but his smile reassured me that he was okay and to press on.

At the end, he ran hard to Jesus, persevering. Now he’s running on streets of gold, free from the disease.

He loved us all so well and there were no regrets. Nothing left unsaid. He taught me to love and to laugh and those same traits I’m carrying forward.

Thank you, Dad, for a beautiful life.

I was blessed to spend time recently with Pepper in New Orleans at the ACFW conference. She took the time to share her rocky publishing journey with me as I’ve faced discouragement this year in my writing journey. She is a gem!! Her title is appropriate as she has faced personal crises and is currently sharing about the hope in Jesus while recovering from the hurricane challenges.
